Spitfires & Lightening

It all came down to a fifth set decider in today’s away fixture at Taunton Lightning.

It was a bit of a slow start but once they got into the grove, the Spitfire Juniors matched Taunton point for point in the first set but just missed out on the win 25-21. More middle hitting saw the momentum swing towards the Spitfires in set two, taking it by a good six points. Strong serving by Will in the third made it a comfortable 25-17 win, at 2-1 up perhaps the third set was too easy as the momentum shifted to Taunton Lightening.

The fourth was nothing to write home about as we got out hit, going down 25-14. So everything to play for in the fifth and deciding set, not a great start but minimal damage and at 4-6 still looking good, some interesting refereeing decisions, then it was suddenly all over and we were on the wrong end of a 15-5 score line. But it was an excellent performs by the junior team, well played everyone.

The player of the match nomination went to Toby, who now moves up to equal second in the Division Two POM table.
